What is your teaching philosophy?
I believe that all students can learn and be successful. I seek to find a student’s comfort level to help them gain confidence.
What might you do in a typical first session with a student?
I get to know the student as a person.
How can you help a student become an independent learner?
I give students age appropriate skills and confidence.
How would you help a student stay motivated?
I use as many different strategies to cover the skill.
How do you help students who are struggling with reading comprehension?
I teach them how to break down a text and what keywords to look for in a text, as well as how to self-monitor.
What strategies have you found to be most successful when you start to work with a student?
Getting to know the student as a learner is the key to finding out what strategies work. In general, I find that using well known material to the student to use in a different way is helpful.
