Michelle: Newport tutor
Certified Tutor
I recently graduated from MIT with a BS in Environmental Engineering and a concentration in History. I will be attending graduate school in the fall - so the GRE is very fresh in my mind! At MIT I served as an undergraduate TA for two courses: Introduction to Computer Engineering (Java programming) and Fluid Mechanics. I currently tutor students at FSU in a variety of Math subjects. I am a patient and positive person, and love seeing others succeed!
Outside of tutoring, I enjoy playing tennis, water and snow skiing, weight lifting, gardening, cooking, and reading. My academic interests lie in understanding the impacts of climate change and human activity on water resources.

What is your teaching philosophy?
I believe that the best way to learn is through doing or through connecting a topic with relevant real world examples. I am a strongly visual learner and feel that if I can picture a certain problem, I can gain a much better understanding of what is going on.
What might you do in a typical first session with a student?
During a first session with a student I like to gauge their strengths and weaknesses, and assess their goals to determine the best approach for working with them.
