I am a graduate of The Evergreen State College in Olympia, Washington and I hold a BA in Latin American Studies and Social Justice. After college, I spent time teaching English in El Salvador, and now hold TESOL certification from NC State University and an MA in TESOL from Greensboro College. I have extensive experience teaching English language learners from a variety of linguistic backgrounds, and I love working with students of all ages. My teaching philosophy is very simple: learning shouldn't be frustrating, it should be fun! I try my hardest to tailor my lessons to all different age levels, abilities, and learning styles. What might you do in a typical first session with a student?
My first session is typically spent getting to know the student- finding out where they're at and what they'd like to achieve during our time together.
What is your teaching philosophy?
My teaching philosophy is very simple: Learning shouldn't be frustrating; it should be fun!
How can you help a student become an independent learner?
I believe that the first step towards becoming an independent learner is developing a love for learning. The best way to develop that love is through finding a study style that works best for the student.
How would you help a student stay motivated?
It's much easier to stay motivated when you're enjoying yourself! Using a variety of different activities helps keep studying from being boring.
