Deborah: Schiller Park tutor
Certified Tutor
I am a graduate of Columbia University School of the Arts, where I received my Masters in Visual Arts, and have a second Masters in English from New York University. I began my teaching career as an Adjunct Professor of English at SUNY at Fashion Institute of Technology and Baruch College. Over the past ten years, I have tutored English, English literature, writing, essay writing, history, classics and study skills and the standardized tests associated with those subjects. I enjoy the teaching process and helping students progress and develop their skills and knowledge. What I especially appreciate about tutoring is it allows me to work closely with a student; assess their individual needs and interests; and see practical, positive results that can have a direct impact on the future of their academic career. Through my previous work experience I have developed a particular passion for teaching writing; and I believe that writing is one of the keys to success in anyone's field of work or study. During my free time, I love to paint, write, see films and theater, cook and travel.

What is your teaching philosophy?
I enjoy communicating with students to find the best teaching approach for their personalities and learning styles, so they are in a position to both learn and enjoy the material. I always try to help students hone their critical reading and study skills to become active, confident learners at every stage in their education.
