I think the reason I'm drawn to the role of teacher is that it's a vocation I've always held. The oldest of four children, I've been tutoring my siblings for as long as I can remember. From helping my sister draft her high school essays to quizzing my brother on multiplication in the car, teaching is something that comes naturally to me.In high school, I expanded my teaching expertise by volunteering as a peer tutor in calculus, physics, and chemistry. It was gratifying to be able to help many of my classmates improve their grades and understanding of curriculum, and I picked up valuable experience working with students of many different capabilities and learning styles. I also spent a summer teaching young children as a bilingual literacy tutor at a nonprofit organization that serves immigrant families.My best attribute as a tutor is my patience. I never make assumptions about a student's current comprehension or fault them for a gap in understanding. Through guided, methodical problem solving and socratic questioning, I work with my students at their pace and in a manner that best suits their unique learning styles. As a tutor in math and science subjects, I believe that the greatest (and most challenging) problem solving skill is being able to bridge the gap between the physical and the mathematical; to translate the world we inhabit into numerical relations. I am currently in the course of my undergraduate studies, pursuing a double major in physics and political science. I do research in biophysics and statistical mechanics, modeling colloidal systems to better understand molecular processes in cells and the possible origins of life on Earth. Outside of academia, I am a musician, an athlete, a reader, a cook, and an adventurous soul. I play saxophone in MIT's Festival Jazz Ensemble and enjoy skiing, hiking, watersports, cooking with my dad, hanging out with friends, and trying new things.

I received my BS degree in Applied and Computational Mathematics from the Caltech and am currently pursuing an MA in Jazz Composition at the Berklee College of Music. I have been working with students and children of all ages for over ten years, in settings anywhere from daycare, to hockey camp, or Spanish Immersion school. As a teacher I aim to determine the specific manner in which a student learns best. Meeting the individual learning needs of each student creates a fun learning environment! In college, I worked with a high school student, for his 9th grade year, focusing mostly on his biology and writing assignments. I was a research coordinator at the Marcus Autism center where I worked with very young kids (ages 2-9) with and without learning disabilities. We worked on general school-related skills and any homework they brought. In my master's program, I did a lot of group study. Frequently, this meant teaching a group of my peers who needed to see the material presented in a new way. I love learning and I want to help others love it, too. Throughout my studies, grades never just came easily to me. I was constantly working at getting better and trying to figure out how to solve problems in many different ways. With this type of experience, I want to help other students who may be struggling with a concept to get to a place where they see how fun and rewarding it can be to really understand the material. I tutor a wide variety of topics; however, my favorites are biology and anatomy. Biology is so exciting for me because it is the foundation for all of life, and helps us understand the world we live in. Anatomy is great because you are living in your own cheat sheet (your body)! When I am tutoring, I want to hear or see my students' thought processes. It's great if you can get to the right answer, but truly learning means knowing how you got there. So, I love having my students teach the concepts back to me. Outside of school, I play slow-pitch softball and I love to cook and bake.

I'm currently a third year student at Northeastern University studying Economics and Business with a concentration in marketing. I enjoy teaching Micro and Macro economics, calculus for economics, US history and US government, as well as a variety of reading, writing, and public speaking skills, at all skill levels. I've worked with students teaching basic principles of economics, and have worked on higher level theory classes, and feel comfortable teaching all levels of economics. I've worked teaching as debate coach at the Boston Latin School and as an instructor at the Harvard Summer Debate Camp Workshop, and have worked with high school students across the country, teaching them about current politics, economics, philosophy, and international relations.
