About Me

I hold a Doctorate in Counseling and Community Care, a Master's in Reading and Literacy, and a Bachelor's in Education. Over the past 2 decades, I've had the privilege of tutoring students in all subjects, K12, with a special focus on college and career readiness, reading comprehension, vocabulary, and test-taking strategies across subjects such as English, History, Civics, and the Sciences. I'm an educator and counselor with over 24 years of experience helping students, teachers, and families grow in confidence and success. My journey in education has taken me from the classroom, where I've taught grades 1 through 12, to the counseling office and district level, where I've supported schools in strengthening both academic and behavioral growth. While I've spent most of my career working with middle and high school students, my passion lies in helping learners of all ages become stronger readers, critical thinkers, and confident achievers. My goal is to meet each student where they are and equip them with the tools to reach their academic goals and beyond. Affectionately known by my students as "Dr. J" or "Dr. Sunshine," I bring warmth, encouragement, and faith-driven positivity into every session. I believe that every student has a light to share, and I'm here to help them shine forward with purpose, confidence, and hope.
