About Me
I am a certified special education teacher in South Carolina with 22 years of experience supporting students in grades K-5. I have an Ed.D in Curriculum and Instruction from Liberty University, and a M.A.T. in Special Education from Western Carolina University. I am passionate about supporting the individual learning needs of students to facilitate engagement and achievement in their academics. I have a wealth of experience with explicit and systematic reading instruction. I also believe in balancing direct instruction with activities that engage students based on their strengths and interests. In addition to literacy/ELA, I enjoy teaching elementary mathematics, and firmly believe in the importance of hands-on and visual approaches to teaching math concepts. Throughout my career as an educator, I have also been a private tutor on multiple occasions with students ranging from K-8th grade.
Hobbies & Interests
My interests and hobbies include: camping, hiking, traveling to the beaches and mountains of the Carolinas with my family, reading and studying U.S. and world history, following NFL football, and involvement in a variety of activities with my church family.
