About Me

Hello! My name is Ryan, and I'm a current student studying for a Bachelor of Science in Computer Science at Purdue. Before beginning my University studies, I graduated from a college preparatory High School in San Francisco where my passion for math, computer science, and teaching began. Growing up, I had always struggled with exams, leading to my own fair share of tutors. It was through these one-on-one learning spaces that I learned the importance of slowing down, approaching topics piece by piece, and fully understanding difficult concepts. As a school peer tutor in my Junior and Senior years of High School, I took what I learned from being tutored, and applied it to my own lessons. I've learned to break down complicated topics into simpler forms and visualize problems that are hard to conceptualize through drawings and analogies. Something I've struggled with, and have noticed my students find difficult as well, is solving problems without assistance or external help. Because of this, my teaching methodology is to guide my students to the answer rather than just give it, as it allows them to reach their own conclusions and develop self-sufficient problem-solving skills. I mainly tutor mathPre-Algebra to Calculus 2but am proficient in Java and C# programming ranging from 3D Engine creation to 2D video game development. If I had to pick, I'd say my favorite teaching subject is Calculus 1, though I have the most fun when I'm programming personal projects. Outside of tutoring, I'm a chill, artsy guy who produces music, plays games, and hangs out with friends.
