About Me

I am a dedicated educator with a Master of Arts in the Humanities from New York University, and a dual Bachelor of Arts' degree in English and Newspaper Journalism from Syracuse University. With over 25 years of successful professional experience across Fortune 500 companies (publishing, marketing, business development), government, and nonprofits in New York City, USA (where I was born and raised) and with a strong foundation in teaching, writing, research, and communication, I bring both academic depth and real-world insight to every tutoring session. I specialize in making complex topics understandable and engaging. I Tutor (Middle School through College)--English (more than 30 areas including--Reading Comprehension, Essay Writing, Creative Writing, News Writing, Poetry, Vocabulary and Spelling, Adult Literacy, and more); American History & Civics; and Study Skills. My teaching experience includes: tutoring with Varsity Tutors for 1.5 years, helping students improve grades; a former NYC High School English Teacher (200+ students taught), former Tennis Pro to more than 1,000 children during the summers for a nonprofit. My additional background includes a M.S. Degree (informal) in Plant Science & Molecular Cell Biology through a distance university in Spain; training in classical music performance (recorder family--sopranino, soprano, alto, tenor, bass, great bass) at New School University and Mannes College of Music and Columbia University workshops and other music guild workshops. I am a published contributor to Wikipedia and to some trade magazines and newspapers and a creator of ecology-themed educational content on Pinterest. I have wide-ranging expertise across the humanities, science, and the arts with: proven ability to connect with diverse learners and tailor lessons to individual needs and requests with strong focus on critical thinking, clarity, and creativity. I offer an encouraging environment and I am deeply committed to student success. I am semi-retired and living in Upstate New York.
