About Me

I am a graduate of Truman (undergraduate degree in Family Sciences), University of Missouri-St. Louis (teaching certificate), and Lindenwood University (master's in education). I also took 30 hours beyond my Master's degree in professional development courses through LaVerne University. Although I did my student teaching in elementary school, I have spent the last 27 years teaching middle school and high school Spanish. As a 6th grader I had the opportunity to travel to Ireland with my piano teacher and other piano students. We performed in two cities as well as got to see sites of the country. We stayed with families and got an up close and personal view of the people and their life. That was the beginning of my love of traveling. Since then, I have travelled to about twelve different countries. It is a passion of mine to learn about other cultures, traditions, languages, and people of different countries. While I tutor a broad range of subjects, I have a special affinity for teaching Spanish. I enjoy sharing my love of the language with others through sharing my vast travel experiences. Regardless of what I may be teaching, it is important for me to not only teach through direct instruction but also allow students to acquire knowledge on their own through doing various activities, guided practice, games, and individual work. I try to keep students interested by making things fun. I give constant feedback so students know how they are doing and where they can improve. They will receive frequent constructive comments to help them learn and stay motivated. Since students may have different learning styles, I make sure to teach in different ways that work for that individual. I genuinely love to teach, and I believe my love comes across to the students. In my spare time, I enjoy learning other languages, doing volunteer work, dancing, playing with my pets, and doing various projects around the house including gardening.
