- In 2016 I got certified to teach math and science in order to work at a residential treatment facility for at-risk youth.
- I really enjoy giving my full attention to one child at a time.
About Me
I earned a BA in Biology from Bard College in 1980. For many years I tried to monetize my interests in art and music, and this led me to a long period of teaching Appalachian style fiddling to kids and adults. In a multi-grade classroom with just a few, very volatile kids, I had the chance to give them the time and the safe learning environment they needed to move forward in school. That school closed down in 2021. In stead of taking a job in the public schools I chose to do tutoring so I could continue to engage directly with individual students. I listen closely to understand the unique learning style of each student and try to give each child what they need to make that work for them. In the time I've been with Varsity Tutors I've helped kids with math in grades 4 through 11, and several kids with science and other subjects. The kids I meet are never boring and often delightful!
