AP English Language and Composition Tutor • +9 Subjects
I recently graduated from Drexel University in June 2014 with a Bachelor's of Arts in English and a Bachelor's of Science in Nutrition and Food Sciences. Teaching was a core value reflected in the curriculum for both of my undergraduate majors. As a nutrition major, I was afforded the opportunity to teach nutrition education classes in underserved neighborhoods and elementary schools. As an English major, I took pride in helping fellow students and aspiring writers to refine their thoughts and ideas in essays and creative compositions alike. In my current position as a laboratory technician in a university setting, I work directly with students in a lab setting on a daily basis. I have worked as a teaching assistant for university-level microbiology courses and I also have expansive experience in writing, literary analysis, and reading comprehension, as I have composed original research in English literature, peer reviewed many of my colleagues' papers, and have served as an editorial intern for a published literary journal and as a weekly arts journalist for a local online publication.Since graduating from college and starting my primary occupation as a lab technician, I found that I have less opportunities to help students and to improve their writing and analytical reading skills, which is a profound passion of mine. Tutoring students in English literature and composition enables me to keep doing something that I love to do. In my spare time, I also enjoy painting, learning computer programming, baking, and reading anything and everything that I can.

Hi there, I'm Kaitlin! I recently graduated from the University of Oregon with a Bachelor's of Science in Human Physiology and a minor in Spanish. I am taking a break in my schooling to save money for graduate school and decide what I want my career to be. Currently I am toying with the idea of going back to school and getting a Master's in Human Physiology and then going on to get my PhD and then become a professor at a University, OR working in the medical field for a while and then applying for Physician Assistant school. Whatever path I take, you can bet that it will involve more school and more science!I decided to apply to become a tutor because I really do love education. I know that having a warm, compassionate person to help you with difficult subjects can make or break your grade and your school experience. As a tutor, it is my goal to help make your problem subjects a little less daunting and help you succeed. I want to create an individualized plan for YOU that will play to your strengths and tackle your weaknesses. Your education is very personal, so it is only just that your learning plan be individualized as well! Whether you are having a hard time with a subject, or you are struggling to manage your time between school, homework, and after-school activities, I am here to help with all.I hope that I can help you meet your educational goals soon!

I have a background in science and math. I graduated with a PhD from the University of Notre Dame, an MS from the University of Wisconsin-Milwaukee and a BS (summa cum laude – with highest honors) from the Inter American University of Puerto Rico. My major subjects were Physical Chemistry, Analytical Chemistry and Chemistry.I worked for many years at Bayer and at Hach Company in Elkhart. My team developed products used to analyze different materials. These products are used in clinics and medical offices around the world. We developed new chemical testing devices for analyzing water in the environment, in industry and in pools and spas. I also developed complex mathematics used in electronic instruments. I hold several U.S. and foreign patents; the most recent issued in April 2014.For many years, I was a youth soccer coach in the Concord league and was a player in an adult soccer league. I create YouTube videos for fun, information and training purposes. My wife and I raised two children who graduated from Concord High School and Purdue University, and went on to earn graduate degrees. As a math teacher, I have had the satisfaction of seeing students see the light, find their way in math, and start to explore and blaze new trails of their own. I help others to see math clearly. I tutor all levels of algebra. I also teach online and traditional math classes at Ivy Tech Community College in Elkhart and South Bend. My philosophy is that every student is capable of learning and applying math principles. My passion is to provide a boost to get them going.

I am a recent graduate from Emerson College. I received my Bachelor of Fine Arts in Creative Writing with a focus on fiction. In addition, I minored in psychology and photography. I am experienced in academic and personal essay writing as well as fiction and poetry.I tutor in English, grammar, essay-writing, American Literature (up to college-level) psychology, verbal SAT prep and lower level Spanish. While I tutor in a wide range of subjects I am most passionate about writing and literature as these are the subjects that have guided me throughout my life and to which I am most dedicated. In my free time I love to take and edit photographs, practice yoga, hike, bike, cook, bake, read, play piano, knit and watch movies. My teaching philosophy is centered around giving each student the unique attention they need. In a one-on-one environment it is possible, and thus, I believe, imperative to zero in on each student's individual learning style, whether it be visual, aural, verbal, etc., and teach in the manner that the student responds to best. The student may not know at the beginning of our tutoring sessions what kind of learner they are, but after we have figured it out together they will have gained an important tool in becoming independent learners because they will know the best way for them to receive information and thus will be able to educate themselves more easily. My mother is a high school Spanish teacher and thus has imparted the vast importance of education onto me throughout my life. Education opens so many doors that would have been closed otherwise and having the right teacher to help open those doors can make all the difference. I believe that, through my dedication to academia, my love of learning, and experience helping my peers write in fiction and essay workshops that I have the ability to be the type of teacher to elevate students to their full potential.

I graduated from Harvard in 2008, where I concentrated in Classics (Greek and Latin Language and Literature) with a Secondary Field in Dramatic Arts. After my senior year, I was awarded the Classics Department's Segal Fellowship for Travel and Research. I received my MA in Advanced Theatre Practice from the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama (University of London) in 2013 and previously completed the One Year Professional Acting course at the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School in England.I founded an international theater company called The Sun Apparatus with three other women in 2013. Since then, most of my non-tutoring hours are spent performing, rehearsing, directing, and producing for the company. We were shortlisted for the Scottish Daily Mail Drama Award in 2014 and will be taking our newest work, The ME, to the Edinburgh Festival this summer. I also work at Time In Children's Arts Initiative, a program that teaches opera appreciation and fine art to Pre-K through Fourth Grade public school children from Harlem and the Bronx.I enjoy working with students to confront the challenges of a subject and then watching as the challenges begin to slip away and what was previously frustrating and incomprehensible to the students becomes a subject that they now enjoy learning about and studying. I believe I am a good tutor and teacher because I am patient, encouraging, and have good communication and classroom management skills. I do not get frustrated if my students do not understand something right away; instead, I look for an alternative way to explain whatever is confusing to my students. My goal is not simply to help my students improve their grades, but rather to teach reliable study skills, encourage interest in the subject, and, most importantly, instill a passion for learning.

I am a graduate of Arizona State University. I received my two Bachelors of Science degrees in Biological Sciences (Animal Physiology and Behavior) and Political Sciences with a certificate in Civic Education. Since graduating, I have started working with the Denver Math Fellows helping close the opportunity gap for high need students by providing small group math instruction. I find the most excitement in tutoring middle school math and science, Algebra I, and General Biology. I find that for most students what makes any subject hard is being unable to use what you already know and not knowing how to tackle the subject. I want to help students by giving them multiple access points and allowing them to access whatever content they desire at their current level. I believe the most important way to help students learn in is to relate content to their current interests and future goals. In my spare time, I enjoy reading non-fiction about technology and neurobiology, hiking, watching sports (mainly football and basketball) and listening to jazz and classical music.

Theatre is so much more, than plays or musicals, and I believe experiencing it as an art form is essential for children to thrive. I believe in teaching the whole child, and that includes; social skills, building confidence, collaboration, thinking outside of the box, creativity, and imagination. These are all things theatre has been proven to do. Children ages 4-18 are ready to learn, create, grow and imagine if only given the chance. I aim to create a space for them to do just that. There are many reasons I value theatre, one is the proven statistics that arts and theatre education raises test scores, creates higher capacity for cognitive thinking, and improves mood and focus. But more importantly, theatre education gives children confidence and freedom. It lets imaginations run wild long after its time to "grow up".I wish to teach because I want to inspire as many children as I can to play, imagine, and create. I hope to teach children how to dream big and shoot for the stars. I long for children to grow up with a sense of wonder and self-worth. I desire that all children know how beautiful and special they are for their own unique talents. I need children to know they are so much more than a number on a page. These values are important to me because children are important to me.Children deserve the opportunity to be themselves without judgement or fear. My priority will always be my students. My job is to create a great experience for them, and my evaluations will be based on how each project goes. I would offer the opportunity for families and students to fill out a survey or evaluation at the end of each project and semester so that I can learn what is working for my students individually. This will also help in my reflection process as I decide if I should or should not reuse these lessons. I would also invoke an open door policy to model the environment of inclusion, and positive collaboration. In addition to modeling what I expect, my students can expect a reliable, trustworthy teacher who genuinely loves what they do. They can expect a detailed, well-planned year with high expectations for success. I believe that every student can be successful. Everyone can learn, and grow with the right combination of light, water, and soil. However, if we are constantly asking fish to climb trees- we will never allow them to show us how capable they are of swimming. This is where student centered instruction and project based learning becomes extremely important. By differentiating based on your students' needs and allowing them the opportunity to show you how they learn best, they will excel. Build respect and rapport, listen to your students, let them tell you what they need. Children are so much more capable than we give them credit for. I am not of the mind that my students should go off and do whatever they wish. But I sure am of the mind that when my student wants to rap her final instead of give a presentation, because that's how she feels she can best succeed, that she should go ahead and soar!My passion for this work lies so deep within me, I do not know where it begins or ends. I work hard, and I go after what I want with determination and confidence. I hope that in leading by example I can instill these as traits and expectations in my classroom. These traits will serve my students long after leaving the safety of my four walls. I believe that this work is very important. I will never get tired of seeing a child's eyes filled with excitement after a performance. Watching a student's confidence grow, seeing pride fill their entire body after working hard on a new challenge. These little moments are what educating is all about, because they are the biggest most important moments of all. If I can help one student who needs theatre, then I will have done my job.

Hello! I am a third year student at Northeastern University. I am a double major in English and Mathematics, and studying to be a secondary school teacher here in Boston.I love tutoring and have experience tutoring both on a volunteer basis and professionally. I used to work for a private tutoring company, where I tutored kids of all grades in really all subjects, including some SAT/ACT prep and standardized testing prep. Math and English are my favorite subjects to tutor (of course) but I enjoy teaching and tutoring in all its forms! I also used to be a Coach for Let's Get Ready, meaning that as a volunteer, I conducted an SAT and college readiness course for a class of around 10 high school students. I also helped with editing their college essays and answering all of their college questions.Currently, I spend an average of at least 2-3 hours per week in Boston Public School classrooms, where I assist teachers and work with students one-on-one who would benefit from extra help. I do this every semester here at school, averaging 30 hours per semester in classrooms, and I love interacting with students!I also have experience working with younger children with literacy and phonics, through an AmeriCorps program called Jumpstart. Here I was lucky enough to conduct a pre-school classroom with a team of my peers. Not only was it adorable, but it was also tons of fun!

I am a graduate of the University of South Florida. I received my bachelor's in Chemistry and a minor in mathematics.I have tutored in mostly STEM subjects (particularly chemistry and biology) and Spanish.I love to tutor these subjects because I love to bring a different and more creative approach to better understanding the difficult concepts. This will be my 7th year as a tutor. While tutoring, I believe explaining the conceptual parts of the problem is important, but I also believe in giving a lot of practice problems to reinforce the ideas.

Frequently Asked Questions
Yes, Varsity Tutors connects students from across Nashua's three school districts—Nashua School District, Hollis-Brookline Cooperative School District, and Hudson School District—with personalized tutoring. Whether your student attends one of the 29 schools in the greater Nashua area or transfers between districts, we can match them with a tutor who understands the local curriculum and academic expectations.
While Nashua maintains a solid 12:1 student-teacher ratio, individual students still benefit from one-on-one attention for targeted skill-building. Personalized tutoring fills gaps that classroom instruction may not address, whether your student needs to catch up, move ahead, or master a specific concept. Tutors can focus entirely on your child's learning style, pace, and goals—something that's difficult even in smaller classes.
Students in Nashua frequently seek tutoring in math (especially algebra and geometry), English language arts, standardized test prep (SAT and ACT), and science. Many also work with tutors on New Hampshire-specific assessments and college preparation. The specific needs vary by grade level, but our tutors are experienced in supporting students across all core subjects and advanced coursework.
Your tutor will start by learning about your student's academic history, current challenges, and goals. They'll assess your child's strengths and areas for growth, discuss any specific curriculum or standards they're working toward, and establish a personalized plan. This foundation ensures that every session after that is focused and productive.
Tutors in the Nashua area are familiar with New Hampshire's academic standards and how they're implemented across the district's schools. They can help students master grade-level expectations, prepare for state assessments, and develop the critical thinking and problem-solving skills emphasized in NH curriculum. This localized knowledge ensures tutoring aligns with what your student is learning in class.
Pricing varies based on the subject, tutor expertise, and frequency of sessions you choose. We work with families to find a tutoring plan that fits their budget and academic needs. Contact us to discuss your situation, and we can connect you with information about rates and package options available for students in Nashua.
We consider your student's subject, grade level, learning style, and specific goals when making a match. Our process ensures you're connected with an experienced tutor who understands Nashua's schools and curriculum. If the fit isn't perfect, we work to find a better match so your student gets the support they need.
Many students show noticeable progress within 4-6 weeks of consistent tutoring, though the timeline depends on the subject, your student's starting point, and how often they meet with their tutor. Regular, focused sessions combined with practice between meetings tend to produce the fastest results. Your tutor will track progress and adjust their approach as needed to keep your student moving forward.
