I am a graduate of Washington University in St Louis, where I received my Bachelor of Arts in History with minors in Humanities and Anthropology. Since graduation, I have worked as a tutor, teacher, and director of tutors at a charter public middle school in Boston. During this time I also received my Masters in Mild to Moderate Disabilities from Simmons College. I have worked extensively with students with a range of abilities, including students with specific learning disabilities, emotional impairments, dyslexia, and ADHD. My teaching experience has given me a deep understanding of the knowledge and habits essential to academic success and has given me the opportunity to hone a variety of strategies that ensure students at each level can achieve their academic goals. While I tutor a broad range of subjects, my favorite ones are Reading, Elementary/Middle School Math, History, and Test Prep. In my experience, tutoring is the most rewarding when a student has that "aha!" moment and achieves a new level of understanding and confidence in his/her abilities. I am a firm believer in the transformative power of education, and I see my role to be that of a facilitator and coach who is there to help the student reach his/her goals through individualized support and rigorous practice. In my free time, I enjoy reading, running, practicing my Spanish, and discovering new music. I am also an avid traveler and just got back from a 3 month trip to South America. I am an Illinois certified Teacher in grades K-9. I attended Northwestern University and received a Master's of Science in Education. I have ample classroom experience and expertise in elementary Math and Reading intervention. I have several tools and resources from various curricula to work with and would love to help your students in any elementary or middle school subject area. For the past three years, I have been working as a classroom Teacher in 2nd, 3rd, and 4th grade classrooms, teaching students with a variety of needs. I can also tutor students through high school and college in History and Spanish as I hold degrees in both subjects from Columbia University. I am a graduate of Northwestern University with a BA from the School of Communications, GPA 3.6, with a specialty in Theater and Education. Since then, I have worked as an educator at the Rubin Museum of Art, tutored the SAT, regularly traveled to India where I study Tibetan Language and conduct independent research, and have written, produced, and performed in several music and theatrical productions throughout New York City. The foundation of my tutoring philosophy is personalization and understanding. Different students have different learning styles; some learn best by listening, some by seeing, others must do. To that end, I try to tailor my lessons to fit the needs of each individual student. Ultimately, I believe that the ability to excel in educational pursuits rests largely on mental strategy, organization, and skill, all techniques that are very teachable. While absorbing content is important, the way we look at the question being asked and the way we understand the test itself is just as crucial to success, especially in standardized testing. Therefore, no matter what subject I tutor, it is my goal not just to help the student memorize information and facts, but to lead them towards understanding the underlying goals and structure of the test or assignment itself. To this end, in my lessons I often incorporate cutting-edge mindfulness-awareness and associative memory techniques based both on ancient tradition and cutting-edge brain science to aid my students towards deeper understanding, increased scholastic confidence, and reduced stress. I specialize in SAT, SSAT, and SAT II prep for Math, Verbal, Writing, and Literature, as well as High School History, English, Literature, and Writing, any K-8 subject, and college admissions coaching. In my spare time, I compose music, write and direct theater, and perform around New York City.
I am a teacher and I have taught at elementary and middle schools in Boston for 4 years. I have tutored for over 7 years! I majored in education at Boston College. My favorite part of teaching is getting to know students and creating course materials that engage students to make learning fun and accessible. I mainly tutor math and Chinese. I believe that each student is fully capable of understanding material. It just depends on how the material is presented to them. My goal is to meet each student where they are at, and support them in learning the way they learn best!
I am a current student attending graduate school at Columbia University. I graduated from Yale University in 2011 and upon graduation, joined Teach for America, a non-profit organization whose mission is is to help close the current opportunity gap that exists in classrooms across the U.S. I taught 1st 2nd and 3rd grade for three years and while teaching, earned a Master's Degree in Education. In addition to being a classroom certified teacher, I have also tutored older students in SAT test preparation, as well as classroom content such as calculus and physics. I tutor a wide range of subjects, ranging from elementary education to high school Mathematics, science and Spanish. I enjoy teaching and my work is about my students, who have the potential to achieve at the highest levels, and their parents, who want the best for them. Outside of teaching, I enjoy reading, watching/playing sports (especially basketball, which I played in college!), skiing, and knitting.
I am starting graduate school in September of 2024 (PhD in clinical psychology at UMass Boston). Throughout high school, I tutored all subjects at a nearby elementary school. I also tutored another high school student in Spanish, at the request of my Spanish teacher. Before college, I took a gap year to pursue music. During the gap year, I tutored a neighborhood seventh-grade girl in math and writing. Over the years, I have come to better understand how much I enjoy providing one-on-one support to children. I am currently a high school counselor and the combination of all of my experience gives me a unique window into the world of education and college entrance. My experience, combined with my doctoral degree with a focus on learning disabilities, allows me a varied perspective while working with children. I work with the whole child and pride myself ion being able to meet each of my students where they are while pushing them to achieve more than they ever thought possible. As a mother of two children with dyslexia, I have seen first hand, the frustration and struggles that accompany learning challenges and I am here to help. In addition to my experience in education, I have also been writing for over 30 years and have had articles and poems published in multiple magazines and journals and have co-authored several medical journal articles related to food allergy and bullying and have also published two books about counseling and learning disabilities through Routledge Press.

I am a pre-Occupational Therapy student majoring in psychology with minors in neuroscience and art. I will be graduating with honors from the University of Minnesota-Twin Cities in May, and I will begin Washington University School of Medicine's Doctorate of Occupational Therapy Program this Fall. My academic pursuits have made me confident in my abilities to tutor those pursing degrees in social sciences along with those pursuing careers in health care. Currently my favorite subject is neuroscience. I fell in love with it after I started college and I plan on specializing in neurorehabilitionation as an occupational therapist.

I am a graduate of SUNY University at Albany. I received my Bachelor of Science in Economics and Japanese with a minor in History in 2010. Since then (and even before as a sub) I have predominantly been teaching in the New York City public education system. I had worked as a substitute teaching assistant since 2008, moving between dozens of NYC public schools before finally settling in late 2011 at M.S. 216 George J. Ryan--an incredibly diverse middle school in Queens. During my tenure in the school system I have spent time teaching students from Pre-K to 12th grade, from all cultural background and socioeconomic statuses. Regardless of whom I have taught, I have always enjoyed it, partly because I often learn as much from my students as they learn from me. Regardless of the subject, I love teaching, and I find it to be one of the most rewarding and meaningful activities, which cliched as it may sound, really can make a difference in people's lives. Besides teaching, I am also keenly interested in the human body, specifically biomechanics, kinesiology, and rehabilitation through movement. I am currently enrolled in a Doctorate of Physical Therapy program at Washington University in St. Louis, which I should finish in 2018.
I am taking some time off to work, but I plan to return to school in the next few years to obtain a graduate degree in Clinical Psychology. While in college, I volunteered with the West Philadelphia Tutoring Project, an organization that brings Penn students into Philly's inner city to tutor low-income middle school students. I found the experience deeply rewarding and my time with WPTP nurtured an interest in working with children professionally. I tutor a wide variety of subjects including English, writing, history, SAT Reading/Writing, French and more! My favorite subject to teach is history. The subject is often viewed by students as boring and unnecessary (along the lines of, "why should I learn something that happened already?"); in my view, history is alive and full of useful lessons that can be applied at the personal, national and societal levels, and I enjoy teaching this point of view to students, helping them to see history as a living, deeply relevant subject matter.

I'm an experienced and very patient math teacher and tutor. I am a MA licensed middle school math teacher of 20 years, and I have tutored countless math students from grades 7-12. I may be the most patient math teacher students will ever have, and I try to not just show math skills, but help students understand the language of math in general and algebra in particular. I am a recent graduate of Northwestern University in Chicago. While there, I majored in Economics and minored in International Studies with a focus in International Political Economy and Development.
