I am a strong believer that anyone can learn anything! I attended the University of Pennsylvania as an undergraduate and recently finished my Master's in Education at the Harvard Graduate School of Education. As a tutor, I create a space where my learners can feel empowered and safe to take on the sometimes difficult, yet often fulfilling and fun, challenge of learning new things. I practice a growth mindset philosophy, and I often say that it is okay to be wrong, it just means you haven't learned the material... yet. I am a dedicated, highly motivated individual with a passion for enhancing the learning experiences of others. I have taught as a classroom teacher and as a volunteer at state and national parks for the past few years. After I graduated with my Masters degree from Johns Hopkins University in 2014, I moved to New Mexico to pursue a career in environmental conservation. I am a recent graduate from the University of Florida. I completed my studies in Behavioral and Cognitive Neuroscience and have minors in statistics and business administration. I am currently going on to obtain a Master in Computational Social Science at the University of Chicago. I am passionate about research, data collection, and analysis in the area of cognitive psychology. My specialties lie in Psychology and Statistics and I have a very strong mathematical foundation. I have experience working with middle school and high school aged students as a tutor through the national honor society club, which I was a member of as a high school student. I am a teacher and I have taught at elementary and middle schools in Boston for 4 years. I have tutored for over 7 years! I majored in education at Boston College. My favorite part of teaching is getting to know students and creating course materials that engage students to make learning fun and accessible. I mainly tutor math and Chinese. I believe that each student is fully capable of understanding material. It just depends on how the material is presented to them. I am a third-year student pursuing a Bachelor's of Science in Human Development and Psychological Services and Psychology at Northwestern University's School of Education and Social Policy. Before coming to Northwestern, I had the privilege to grow up with good teachers under a rigorous IB curriculum in Shanghai, China, granting me access to quality education that I know many of my peers and other students across the world do not have. Thus, my hopes to combat education inequities, utilize my experiences with multicultural/special education contexts, and be continually inspired by students in addition to offering them the personalized support they deserve is what drives me to work with students. I've guided students with special needs aged 3-14 through summer program activities in Shanghai, coordinated an after-school program for K-12 refugee students in Chicago, and interacted with secondary school students in Jinja, Uganda. Since my first year in college, I've worked as a tutor for a morning program in an elementary school in Evanston. I have the most experience tutoring Elementary School Math and Reading and the most content knowledge in Psychology, though I am also passionate about helping students with ACTs/College apps due to having myself navigated through the system's challenges recently. In addition, I'd be happy to dive into Mandarin Chinese as it is another native language I speak. From my tutoring experiences and taking classes within the Learning Sciences, I find it important to listen to student needs and interests while maintaining encouragement to challenge themselves in the spirit of learning, and be a source of emotional support in addition to providing knowledge. I'm passionate about guiding high schoolers through the college application process. The admissions process is probably one of the most confusing, anxiety-inducing experiences you'll have in high school, but I'm full of ideas for making the entire process as successful and stress-free as possible. I've successfully guided many students through every stage of admissions -- from figuring out where to apply and then staying organized and on-track, to "packaging" themselves and producing a perfect personal statement -- and I love witnessing them achieve their admissions dreams.

I am a sophomore at the University of Chicago pursuing a B.A. in Sociology with a minor in Inequality, Social Problems, and Change. I also hold an IB diploma and particularly enjoyed my psychology and environmental systems and societies courses. I am a second-year student at Vanderbilt University in Nashville, TN. I am double majoring in Cognitive Studies and Psychology with a minor in Computer Science. I am an undergraduate student at the University of Chicago, working towards a pre-med double major in Psychology and Biology (with a specialization in Neuroscience). Beginning in my early teens, I began working and volunteering as a tutor in a variety of environments: I began as a volunteer at a summer program for underprivileged children at the Learning and Tutoring Center of East Austin, and since I have worked as a private elementary school tutor, a private SAT-prep tutor, and a preschool tutor for the Neighborhood Schools Program in South Side Chicago. I have taken, and succeeded in, a broad range of Advanced Placement (AP) and International Baccalaureate (IB) classes, and am familiar with the latest formats, question varieties, and scoring guidelines of these standardized tests, along with the SAT. My teaching philosophy is to go beyond "teaching to the test". Although test-taking skills are crucial for any assessment, I believe the most valuable thing a tutor can do is to enhance and help develop conceptual understanding in our clients. I believe that once a student understands something at the conceptual level, he or she will be much better prepared for the topic, not only in the specific test we are preparing for, but anywhere else it may come up. Memorizing words or equations might help somebody in the short term, but understanding why that word means what it means, or what an equation is actually depicting is worth the extra effort. Besides test-prep I think I can be a great help in writing and editing, as I have experience in everything from short, timed essays such as the SAT essay, to college essays, to research papers such as the IB Extended Essay. I am fully fluent in Spanish for anyone who wishes to communicate in or practice the language.

I'm a dental hygiene resident at UNC Adams School of Dentistry and studying to be dental hygiene educator. My thesis and research is focused on environmentally sustainable dental practices. Part of my graduate student duties is to educate and tutor adult learners on subjects such oral pathology, microbiology, tooth anatomy, and clinical skills. I am a senior studying Film Production at Emerson College. Though I am pursuing a career in filmmaking, I am also passionate about education. I have volunteered extensively to tutor children through various programs. At the Rosedale Achievement Center in the Bronx, I worked one-on-one with a high school student and with a middle school student. I helped them understand their school work in subjects including English, French, Algebra, Chemistry, History and Religious Studies. I also volunteered with Free Arts NYC, through which I, along with a group of tutors, taught small groups of elementary and middle school students about various famous artists and art techniques, and lead them in art projects. I have also taught swimming lessons as a Water Safety Instructor for several years; I taught children from age 4 to age 15 at Brookhaven Country Day Camp and at the Fresh Air Fund. I am a student at Arizona State University and Barrett the Honors College. I am pursuing a degree in chemical engineering and two minors in Spanish and mathematics.
