I am a recent graduate of the University of Rochester in upstate New York, with degrees in English Literature and French. I have experience tutoring students of all ages, from those who have just finished kindergarten all the way up to college students. I tutor in English (including reading for both younger and older students, essay prep including college essays, and editing), French of all levels, and test prep including SAT, PSAT, and AP tests in English and French. I believe that individualized teaching is most effective, and work to find methods that work best for each individual student. Some of my most rewarding teaching experiences have been young students learning to read, but also love to see a student who goes from struggling to success on their standardized tests. I believe that an education is one of the most influential things a person can possess, and am passionate about helping students succeed academically and helping them overcome frustration they may feel to begin to enjoy their education, too. Beyond academics, I passionately love to read, cook, and do yoga, which takes up much of my free time.

For the last six years I have tutored and taught from French to physics and back again. As a bachelor's graduate with a chemistry/physics degree, I know full well what's required to succeed in those subjects. I also know how to face the endless standardized tests and leave the battle in victory, not resignation. I've been speaking French since I was old enough to read and I have a Russian heritage that can help out with colloquialisms and grammar. Languages and linguistics are fascinating to me and I don't get to speak mine enough, so please speak them with me!My physics background, as well as my years of teaching, means I know a disturbing amount of math (through advanced calculus). Yet, I've also been reading since I was old enough to hold a flashlight (my eyes don't thank me), so if you need help with following any sort of literature, I've got your back (excluding the original text of the Canterbury tales, I never learned Middle English).Live long and prosper, friends.

I am a recent graduate of the University of Missouri in Columbia, where I earned two Bachelor of Arts degrees in French and Linguistics in May 2016. Sometime in the near future, I plan on going back to school to earn a Masters degree in translation. I have a passionate love of languages and language usage, and I derive great joy from helping others develop their skills in these areas. As such, I am a registered French, English, Writing, Essay Editing, and Grammar tutor. My goals as a tutor are to help students become more comfortable with the material that they are learning, to give them the tools necessary to develop study skills that are effective for them, and to impart upon them the same passion for learning that I possess, because I have seen that passion is a great motivator and tends to predict remarkable improvement. When I am not tutoring, I enjoy writing creatively, trying to teach myself different languages (right now it's Japanese), playing the saxophone, and going on nature walks.

I graduated from Carleton College with a BA in English and a concentration in French and Francophone Studies. At Carleton, I gained experience teaching critical thinking and writing skills through my work at a summer writing program for high school students. After graduating, I taught English at the middle school and high school levels in Lyon, France, while simultaneously improving my conversational French. I will be living in Washington DC for the summer before starting a Ph.D. program in English literature at Cornell University in the fall. I have a passion for reading, poetry, and learning. I strive to help students read and analyze for themselves, instead of worrying about finding the "right answer." This helps them learn how to think critically about the world around them so that they become more enlightened, aware, and compassionate people. I seek to help each student get the most out of their learning as well as to prepare for the next step in their education. In my tutoring sessions, I strive to understand how each individual student learns best and to develop personalized teaching strategies. My main goals are to explain concepts clearly, help students work independently, and make learning fun and fascinating. In my spare time, I like doing many forms of dance, reading novels, hiking, traveling, and eating ice cream.

I am a recent graduate from Colorado State University, with a M.A. degree in French Language, Literature, and Culture. I just moved out to the D.C. area to experience the east coast and to be closer to my parents. I am excited to be a tutor with Varsity Tutors because I simply adore sharing my knowledge with those who wish to learn it.I taught English in France for two years between my undergraduate degree and my masters degree at three high schools in Limoges, France. I also tutored in my free time. It was this experience that started my passion in teaching. When I returned state-side, I was a French Adjunct professor at Front Range Community College, in Fort Collins, Colorado for three years teaching beginning French to a diverse group of adult learners. Both experiences were rewarding and exhilarating. I enjoy working with any age group and/or level of French. Whatever your experience is, I know that we can find a plan to help you excel in you language goals! Everyone has a different learning style and this is why tutoring is so successful; we can personalize your lessons to fit YOU!In my spare time I like to indulge in a variety of activities: painting, dancing, bike riding, sewing, walking my dog, being outdoors in general, listening to my music and reading good books. I look forward to getting to know you! Cheers!
