The student completed her literature project, creating a map of important locations in "To Kill A Mockingbird" by citing their descriptions in the text. We studied for her math test. I selected problems from the review packet to quiz from. We checked over and corrected previously solved practice problems. We also practiced solving linear equations of many forms, and discussed shortcuts and strategies. We focused on negative numbers and avoiding costly mental mistakes.

We worked on evaluating expressions with complex numbers. This involved solving quadratic equations that had complex roots and simplifying expressions with complex numbers using addition/subtraction/multiplication and division. The student was able to get most of the homework finished.

The student seems to be coming along well. We went over addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division of fractions again and she proved to be efficient. Then we practiced percentage to decimal conversions, for which she struggled at first, but then soon proved proficient. We will continue to practice them. We also covered the area of a circle and I left her with some practice problems for area.

Today, the student and I worked on his upcoming vocab quiz in English. We systematically went through all twenty words, writing them down on cards and reviewing them. After this, he and I reviewed his last writing assignment. I showed him how he can change his passive constructions into active ones. Also, we looked at getting rid of extra words. One of the most common mistakes writers make is writing too much. So, we looked at where we could simplify sentences.
