We've had the BEST experience with VT! Our tutor has helped my middle schoolers math grades come up from a D to an A for our 8th grader and from a D to a B for my 6th grader. I'm beyond pleased with how she connected with my boys.

The student had an exceptional tutoring session today. It began the moment she retrieved her materials so we could meet inside. We began completing several sections from her curriculum that included fractions, place value of whole numbers and decimals, the identification of figures, and subtraction problems with large numbers through the use of story problems. She showed limited need for prompting. She enthusiastically returned to her learning, showing a clear understanding of concepts and operations. She had a very productive day and I enjoyed seeing her continuing improvement and progress.

We started off the session with sight word flashcards. The student read her reading book to me. We then choral read together. Then she read again by herself. We then went over her comprehension questions. She had to list 3 facts she learned while reading the book. Next, she read her SRP book to me. She read with fluency and only had to slow down to sound out a couple of words. We finished with her sight words. She did well!

Tutoring review by Phoebe in Maywood, IL
The student took a practice SSAT and did well. Vocabulary is the only real concern with the Verbal. She is keeping a vocabulary journal, and I've sent her an SSAT core vocabulary list to study. We reviewed the reading comprehension questions that discussed language and how to critically assess answer choices. We then reviewed math. Five of the missed questions were due to simple errors. The rest were due to needing a refresher of skills - but nothing that she didn't know.
