I graduated from UTA with a master's in Nursing Education in December 2021, OKWU in 2016 with BSN. I completed my master's practicum with Northeastern Oklahoma A&M College in December 2021. I started teaching with NEO in January 2022, I will complete my 2nd year in December 2024.
My strong areas in nursing are medical-surgical, orthopedics, & general surgery. I have been in nursing for the last 40 years, most of my career has been at bedside.
As a bedside nurse, I have always enjoyed having nursing students. Students need the opportunity to participate in hands-on activity, need to learn how to engage with a patient as they complete a nursing assessment. I like to ask questions that will challenge them to use critical thinking & clinical judgement skills.
As an instructor in a 2 year ADN program, I see students struggle with the transition from 1st year to 2nd year. I strongly believe in helping students get through this transition stage. The greatest gift is when you witness the "ah haa" moments, it makes since how this disease process affects a patient, they see the whole picture, not just bits & pieces.
