Perla: Douglas County tutor
Certified Tutor
I am passionate about helping students take the next step in their education with confidence. Whether it's preparing high school students for college or guiding current college students through their coursework, my goal is to make the process less stressful and more empowering.
I graduated from the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley with a Bachelor's degree in Psychology and am a certified educator with over ten years of experience teaching English Language Arts to grades 912, including English for Speakers of Other Languages (ESOL). I am also currently pursuing my Master of Business Administration (MBA), which enhances my perspective on higher education and career preparation. Beyond the classroom, I have led college advising workshops focused on admissions essays and application strategies, equipping students with the tools they need to stand out and succeed.
I specialize in:
College admissions advising and application support
Essay development (college admissions, scholarships, and class assignments)
Academic writing, research, and note-taking strategies
Reading comprehension and analysis for high school and college-level courses
I believe every student has the ability to succeed when given the right tools and encouragement. My approach is student-centered: I meet learners where they are, build on their strengths, and guide them in becoming confident, independent scholars.
When I am not teaching or tutoring, I enjoy cooking, reading, and spending time with my energetic four-year-old.
I look forward to supporting you on your college journey!
