I love helping students to learn new skills and reinforce those they have been introduced to. I believe that education is one master key for unlocking potential. The "aha" moments, when the light bulb goes on, make teaching and tutoring exciting.
I have a teaching credential in English in the US state of Missouri, and am currently pursuing a M.Ed. degree from University of the People, I'm about halfway through! I currently have a BS in Business from National University.
I taught Grades 5 and 6 English/ESL, Social Studies and Science for three years. One semester was all online. I substitute taught grades 2-12, all subjects, for one year, and tutored all subjects for one year. I will teach G7 English in the coming schoolyear.
My favorite subjects to tutor are English and Social Studies. English provides opportunity for students to express themselves. Social Studies introduces students to a broader world with diverse cultures and practices and challenges them to think critically about the world around them.
My approach to teaching is student-centered, active, and technology based. I motivate my students by connecting learning with their goals, interests, and the real world and by creating opportunities for self-expression.
I enjoy traveling, homesteading and home improvement. I am also a fan of the NFL (The National Football League of professional American football) and relax by watching an occasional movie or a select few TV shows.
