I started my career in teaching while I was studying for my master's degree at Ball State University. I began as a summer intern at a local community college, limited to just a single class as I was still in school. I had previously worked as a substitute teacher at several high schools, but this was my first real teaching position. I was nervous, but I soon found my footing. Since then, I have gone from intern to adjunct and full-time professor. Though I am by nature an introvert, I truly love being able to shape the minds of my students and help them work towards their educational goals. In my opinion, a core strategy of teaching is the presence of a bond between teacher and student. While teachers must certainly maintain their position as the authority figure of the classroom, they must also empathize with their students and project a certain level of approachability to them. Tutoring offers this and then some, as it allows me to truly zero in on my students' objectives and build them a path to success.
I tutor in multiple subjects, but by far my passions are for writing, literature, and history. I have had years of practice in editing and proofreading students' work. I am a zealous bibliophile and have carved a niche for myself writing book reviews for academic journals. History, especially American history, has always been an enthusiastic hobby of mine and I never miss an opportunity to learn more about it. Outside of academia, I pass the time with books, film, television, video games, and have recently acquired an amateur interest in creative writing.
I exclusive tutor middle school, high school and college students.
