My name is Karen, and while I come from a family of educators, I started off in the business world after graduating with my Bachelor's degree from Cornell University. After working in business for ten years, I returned to school for a Master's degree in Education. My Master's is in General Education grades K-6 with a specialization in Literacy. After teaching in elementary schools for over twenty years, I added certifications in both Math 6-8 and also Exceptional Children (Special Education). For me, having students who struggled in my classrooms over the years, and watching them begin to fall through the cracks, helped me to find my passion of working in Special Education. In my current role I get to work more closely with each student, and to watch my students make amazing growth, either in reading or in math. It's an incredible feeling to watch a student's confidence soar as they begin to close gaps and move forward! I have done private tutoring and school program tutoring in all grades K-8. I especially love reading and math, and my philosophy in tutoring is that mindset is an incredibly important part. I try hard to help students see the positive in what they can do! In my spare time I enjoy unwinding with walking, boating, a good jigsaw puzzle or a great book.
