Certified Tutor

I'm a former teacher and child care worker who is ready to help students of all ages with their reading and writing. I taught English 1 and 2, 7th grade writing, ESL, PK, Kinder, and 1st grades, and I have tutored for many years with all different kinds of writing and reading. I am also conversational in American Sign Language.

I started tutoring in 2010, while in college at Stephen F Austin State University where I pursued a degree in Creative Writing. I worked with incoming freshman on their composition courses, but also with a variety of students in all kinds of disciplines who needed help with writing. I worked both online and in person in our tutoring facility. I also did language practice with ESL students.

After that I moved on and got my Master's degree in Teaching ESOL. I worked again with incoming freshman to learn appropriate American academic writing, but I also worked with grad students looking to improve their writing in English as well.

When I left school, I started teaching high school English 1 and 2 as well as developmental reading. From there I taught ESL at the Middle School level (7th grade). I recently left public school and am a nanny, but when I have time, I love being able to help students needing additional help.

I recently nannied for a family who needed a homeschool teacher for their PK and 1st grade kids. I was in charge of the curriculum, development, and implementation of their schooling needs. I loved getting to help that family create a working system and find great resources.

I spend a lot of time keeping up with current teaching practices and I can often be found on Pinterest or other educational sites looking for new ways to engage the kids I work with both educationally and just for fun. My focus is on helping kids meet their developmental milestones, while having fun in a safe environment.

When I'm not working or learning more about teaching, you can find me at the dog park with my two pups, reading a book, writing on my computer, or trying something new and creative like a crochet project, furniture DIYing or stand up comedy. Anything to keep those creative juices flowing!
