Jacob: Bergen County tutor
Certified Tutor
My name is Jacob Mason. I am currently 21 years old and am a Senior at Central Michigan University. I am a triple major with my areas of study being Mathematics, Meteorology and Geographic Information Sciences (GIS). After I finish my undergraduate degree, I plan on obtaining my Masters of Arts in Mathematics also from Central Michigan University.
Throughout obtaining my undergraduate degree, I have always found my math courses to be my most enjoyable courses to take. The reason is that I love the logic of math and how it all flows together and is connected. I also fully understand that not all people enjoy math and that not everyone understands every concept immediately. That is why when I do help others with their math, I remain patient and understanding. I am always there to help with any questions and to help the student better understand the material. I will help the student better understand the material by thoroughly covering any practice problems they may have and answering any questions until they feel more comfortable with the material.
Other college students and my friends ask me why I wanted to become a tutor. If I am being honest, I was always nervous at first and unsure if I would make a good tutor. However, throughout my college career, I have found myself continually helping others in math. Whether it be classmates, friends or coworkers, I would always sit down and help them understand the math they were doing better. Every time after I helped someone, they would always say something along the lines of "Jacob, you would make a great tutor, have you ever considered being a tutor?!" I even have had my college professors tell me that I should become a tutor for math classes because of how well I understand the material and how well I can teach it to others. After making it to the end of my undergraduate degree, I decided that it was time to take all their advice and become a tutor! I have always enjoyed helping people and love that moment when someone understands a math concept they were struggling with. Being able to help others understand math would be very satisfying and I look forward to helping you understand whatever you need help with.
When I am not solving math problems and am not in class, I usually stay busy with hobbies outside of school. I currently also work part time at the Student Activity Center at Central Michigan University. I am also the co-lead of the mock interview program at CMU. Again, I enjoy helping people and helping people be prepared for interviews as well as being in charge of the program is truly a satisfying experience for me and I enjoy it a lot! Outside of work and school, I have many hobbies. I enjoy hanging out with my friends I have met in college, I enjoy walks in the park, I love observing the weather, I enjoy game nights and movie nights too. I am always down to go out and have a good time with friends, but I also enjoy staying in as well. Also, I love cooking and baking! People have told me I make very good dessert foods.
Anyways, that is a lot about me. I hope after reading this statement that you believe that we would be a good fit together. I am a very understanding person and I enjoy getting to know people. Now that you know who I am, I would like to get to know you more and be a great tutor for you. I look forward to helping you understand concepts and solve any problems or answer questions that you may have.
Thank you and I look forward to meeting you soon!
