I am currently in graduate school at Hofstra University studying in Health Administration. I graduated from Hofstra with my Bachelor of Science in Biology and a Minor in Forensic Science in the Honors Program there. I started tutoring through the Learning Centers over 5 years ago which helped me realize that teaching others was something I loved to do. This coupled with my passion for Science and a wide range of topics motivated me to excel. I have experience working with a wide range of students from as young as KG to as old as college aged students, in various fields such as science, mathematics, reading and even test preparation. In my free time I love to read and travel.

What is your teaching philosophy?

Personally, I feel that discovering an answer on your own with guidance is one of the best ways to really come to understand the material. As a tutor, I would want to guide my student to better comprehend the material being learned by making meaningful connections.

What might you do in a typical first session with a student?

I would want to know a little bit about my student first, their goals with the material, and their problem areas. Understanding this first would better help me to develop a strategy to help my student.

How can you help a student become an independent learner?

By developing strategies to help the student understand the material they are learning better coupled with simple tricks in memorization and exam-taking, I would enable my student to develop the confidence needed to be able to think independently.

How would you help a student stay motivated?

Rewarding a student for his or her successes and not reprimanding a student for failures would be Step 1 in helping my student stay motivated. I would want my student to understand their mistakes but not feel dejected as a result.
