I am a senior undergraduate at the University of Pennsylvania studying Political Science, as well as a research assistant studying violence against women. Becoming a truly successful college student often requires using an interdisciplinary approach to a given subject. I strive to bring what I have learned at a top University to high school students.

What is your teaching philosophy?
As a high school student, I had a high level of motivation, but often little guidance. I believe that students can often learn to succeed on their own with the right guidance. I seek to use my own experiences as a successful student to guide others to the right path.
What might you do in a typical first session with a student?
In a typical first session, I would start by getting to know a student. When it comes to subjects like essay writing, it is crucial to understand my students as human beings with diverse interests. I also think a student's interests can offer insight into their strengths and weaknesses. Depending on the subject, I would also use a practice test or essay to assess my student's level of proficiency.
How can you help a student become an independent learner?
Understanding a student's strengths and personal interests is the key to helping him or her become an independent learner. Students who are actively interested and engaged in a subject are primed for self-motivation.
How would you help a student stay motivated?
Understanding a student's individual learning style is crucial to helping him or her stay motivated. Knowing which exercises and teaching tools work best for a student can keep him or her from losing steam.
If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?
Students often feel stuck when they are struggling with a particular skill or concept. I think the best way to move forward is to focus on what a student knows, not what he or she doesn't know.
