As parents and teachers your greatest desire is to have your student learner(s) make emotionally healthy decisions which further maximize their academic and real world success!

With over 25 years field experience I've developed a curriculum of arts-education, youth leadership, youth entrepreneurship & life-skills development to help K-12 and college aged learners gain a competitive edge over their peers.

Leveraging my Award Winning background in film, theatrical production, acting, and writing, I've developed student mentorship, tutor-coaching and after school programs for the K-12 demographic having consulted and coached with New Jersey's public school, higher ed & private sectors to include numerous summer camps, various HS college recruitment and admissions departments as a motivational life-skills & youth leadership coach.

During my 12 years tenure at Rutgers University, I designed & published an academic approach to help students & millennials tap into and develop their own "achievement psychology" while helping them to understand their personal leadership potential and to be both intentional & responsible for maximizing their learning experience, while helping them begin to develop their own brand of leadership celebrity in the following areas:

??? job & career readiness

What is your teaching philosophy?

The goal of my teaching, and center of my teaching philosophy, is active learning. One of my ultimate objectives in teaching is to facilitate learning by helping students to gain the necessary skills to take control of and become active participants in their own learning. I truly believe that knowledge gained through active participation is knowledge that will stay with an individual. Thus, my approach to teaching reflects this philosophy, and I have developed and use many techniques that are designed to engage students in their own learning.

What might you do in a typical first session with a student?

Build rapport by having them share a bit about themselves, discuss what would be a WIN for them as a result of our tutoring, and get their input about what motivates them, their hobbies, and interests, as well as what BORES and demotivates them as well. Find out their personal drives/hot buttons. CONNECT with THEM as a student learning leader.

How can you help a student become an independent learner?

Find out what EXCITES them about learning, and connect their current subject to things they already LOVE to learn about. Get them to apply their learning in a real-life context as quickly as possible.

How would you help a student stay motivated?

Simply ask them what motivates them and have them connect to what they are committed to based on the academic game (activity) they are playing.

How do you help students who are struggling with reading comprehension?

Break it down into bite sized chunks and discuss.

What strategies have you found to be most successful when you start to work with a student?

Rapport, rapport, and rapport.

How would you help a student get excited/engaged with a subject that they are struggling in?

I ask them what excites them about said subject and pinpoint their point of struggle and empower them around it.

What techniques would you use to be sure that a student understands the material?

I have them teach it back to me.

How do you build a student's confidence in a subject?

I use humor and skill building.

What types of materials do you typically use during a tutoring session?

I do whatever it takes.

How do you evaluate a student's needs?

I use discussion.

How do you adapt your tutoring to the student's needs?
