What is your teaching philosophy?

I believe that the most important aspect of teaching is helping students learn not just by lecture but also through practice and self-discovery. Most subjects are just like playing a sport or instrument, the more one practices, the better one gets.

What might you do in a typical first session with a student?

I would try to set up goals for not only the first tutoring session but also what they wish to achieve at the end of the year. This way both the student and I know exactly where they want to end up and what the student wishes to accomplish through the year.

How can you help a student become an independent learner?

I believe that the best way to help a student become an independent learner is to teach them how I would have gone about studying for a certain topic. Teaching is not simply about introducing and clarifying topics for students but also about helping students know how they can best teach themselves.

How would you help a student stay motivated?

I believe that challenge helps to motivate a student. When a student is properly challenged to the extent that they can be without frustrating them, it keeps a student motivated and helps them focus on the goals they have set.
