Certified Tutor
I have been a classroom teacher for over 10 years, mainly in secondary classrooms. However, I have experience teaching and tutoring students from ages pre-school to adult. I love seeing the "light bulb" go on for a student when they discover a new concept or read a new piece of literature.

What is your teaching philosophy?
My personal teaching philosophy is that all students can learn at high levels.
What might you do in a typical first session with a student?
In a first session, I think it is important for the student and tutor to get to know each other. A personal connection goes a long way in promoting academic success.
If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?
I strongly believe in differentiated instruction, and meeting the student where they are. Therefore, I like to find out how the student learns best, and then create activities that promote that learning style.
How do you help students who are struggling with reading comprehension?
When a student is struggling with reading comprehension, it is important to work backwards and find out where the misconception is--is it in vocabulary, fluency, phonemic awareness? Once the misconception is found, then we can begin building the bridge to comprehension.
