My goal is to help motivate my students to optimize their now in order to maximize their future. I do this through a stress on preparation and a commitment to doing their best work every time.

Process is extremely important and I encourage curiosity, thoughtful questions, and an overall understanding of the WHY behind the HOW. By making it a point to truly grasp a concept or theory, instead of just memorizing it, they set themselves up to truly internalize the knowledge and be able to easily apply it moving forward. I encourage my students to think, question, and dive deep. Through time management, a hunger for knowledge, and a plan of attack, anything is possible.

I have extensive training as an actor, musician, and dancer and have performed on and off Broadway in numerous shows. I use the skills and knowledge I have honed as a performer to help shape the narrative of each lesson and present information in a fun, memorable, and effective way. I love having the ability to help shape the future...one student at a time.

What is your teaching philosophy?

"Give a man a fish and you feed him for a day; teach a man to fish and you feed him for a lifetime." (Maimonides)

What might you do in a typical first session with a student?

I would first ask my student how they study and how they best learn. I would then ask them which subjects they excel in and which they struggle with. From there, I would work with them to set up a game-plan for how to capitalize on their strengths in order to improve on their weaknesses.

How would you help a student stay motivated?

I would find out what naturally interests them (whether it be a hobby, a specific subject at school, an extracurricular) and I would try to implement those points of interest into their studies.

If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?

I would assess where the confusion or disconnect was, and I would help the student figure out an alternate way of understanding. There are many roads to learning.

How do you help students who are struggling with reading comprehension?

I would first do some relaxation and stress release exercises. Then, I would invite the student to invest in the story and the characters as if whatever they were reading was about friends and family. Oftentimes, a personal investment increases retention and comprehension while lowering the stress level.

What strategies have you found to be most successful when you start to work with a student?

Getting to know the student is paramount. Everyone has a specific and unique way of learning, and understanding what that is will help me as a teacher to best help my students.

How would you help a student get excited/engaged with a subject that they are struggling in?

I would incorporate aspects of subjects or hobbies that DO interest them. There are many ways to mix and match.

How can you help a student become an independent learner?

Teach them the time management and study skills that they can apply to anything they are learning for the rest of their lives. Help them learn how to learn.
