Certified Tutor
Hailing from Lake Charles, Louisiana, I am an avid fan of everything reading, writing, and listening. As an alumnus from Grambling State University (located in Louisiana), I hold a Bachelor's of Arts in both English and History. After college, my journey led me to the state of Arkansas where I fell in love with teaching 120 tenth graders. Imagine how surprised they were to realize that their teacher had more energy than them! I have experience in tutoring and teaching with a distinct flair for humor. I am a ball of lightning so my personality will spark up any room. My teaching style incorporates a demand for excellence while simultaneously uncovering the hidden abilities of others. I believe everyone has a purpose; I'm skilled at identifying that purpose! I love being able to learn and develop while helping others. Currently, I am in the process of applying to the University of Houston to become a candidate in the English Master's program. My hobbies include cooking Cajun and Italian dishes, running while admiring the beauty of nature, and working on my first novel (I'm 43 pages in). I am looking forward to working diligently with you!

What is your teaching philosophy?
My teaching philosophy is best summarized as follows: You have to drown a little so that you may know how good it feels to swim.
What might you do in a typical first session with a student?
In a first session, I would observe the student and their studying habits and learning style(s) to better understand how to assist their development.
How can you help a student become an independent learner?
A student can become an independent learner when they realize that they can and must question every single idea they encounter.
How would you help a student stay motivated?
I would help a student remain motivated by paying attention to what makes them happy. Happiness is linked to motivation.
If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?
Together, we review the basics associated with a skill or concept and then succeed one step at a time. Difficulty is normal. Overcoming that difficulty is normal also.
How do you help students who are struggling with reading comprehension?
Reading comprehension is tough. However, if you realize that everyone is arguing, then it will become much easier to understand when you realize that you either agree or disagree.
What strategies have you found to be most successful when you start to work with a student?
Playing on the strengths of students is the single most successful strategy when working with a student. Confidence leads to progress.
