Halsey: Homewood tutor
Certified Tutor
My name is Halsey Smith and I am currently a student studying Computer Science and Mathematics. I have already received a degree in Psychology from the University of Central Florida but have decided to change my career path. When I'm not studying for school, I enjoy carpentry, golf, books, movies and sky diving (when I can afford it). I have been helping friends, family and classmates with their math lessons since I was in middle school. I love math and helping others understand it.

What is your teaching philosophy?
My teaching philosophy is to explain the basics of the problem to the student and allow them to solve the problem on their own.
What might you do in a typical first session with a student?
I would introduce myself and get to know the student a little. It's important to build a relationship between student and teacher to enhance the learning process.
How can you help a student become an independent learner?
The best way to help a student become an independent learner is to teach the student how to identify problems and show them various ways to solve that problem.
