The student and I worked through a reading section of the SAT together today. The student had some homework that he finished up. We then reviewed solving quadratics by completing the square, which we worked on last session. I showed him that he could have used that method to complete his homework rather than using substitution and some of the problems would be easier/ quicker to solve. We then worked on factoring polynomials and cubic functions. I decided to work on this because it seems like his class is still factoring quadratics and he has already mastered that skill and factoring other types of functions will just make him stronger overall.

I included the strategies of laying out step-by-step instructions how to treat absolute values and inequalities. Towards the end I gave him example problems that I made up and timed him to see how fast he could move through problems. He did very well.
