Today we spent time working with data sets to plot the median, Q1, Q3, and endpoints for a box and whisker plot. We also dealt with data and created dot plots explaining the spread of data, median, center, Q1, and Q3. She is solid with these concepts and does very well with them. We also went over how to interpret the data and explain what the data means. When we had extra time at the end, we did some Pre Calculus Practice Problems from the site. She enjoyed them.

I tutored the student and we covered all of his chapter in preparation of his upcoming test on division. He knows the math very well. His only problem would be that he knows it too well and tries to do things in his head and sometimes does little math errors. I told him to take his time and write things out so he doesn't make little mistakes and to double check his work. Overall, this was a great session.

The student continued her work on her current class material at the beginning of our session tonight, which focused on slope fields. She was doing a great job with these. We spent almost all of our session having her work through practice questions. She went through the latter portion of the multiple choice section, and she seemed quite confident in this area. We then moved on to the free-response questions. They require you to pull from all parts of Calculus to answer them. I left her an additional free-response set to work on this week, and we'll go over more of these questions the next! I think a couple more weeks of prep will leave her prepared for her exam.

The student and I spent the session preparing for her calculus test, specifically practicing using the definition of a limit, and its alternative to find both average and instantaneous velocity. We went through her quiz and found that the majority of her errors were from simple math errors. Overall she seems much more confident in calculus than last year and isn't having issues keeping up with her work so far.

We had a very short read-a-loud from her favorite book, she still pauses quite a few times when reading. I would like to see more fluid reading by the end of the year. The main concentration was executing math problems under time guidelines. Subtraction was her strength today (i.e. 25 problems in under 2.5 minutes with a high correction percentage). Her completion percentages got better, but her time taking the exercises increased. I would like to see her finish addition and subtraction problems in under 2.5 minutes by the end of the year.
