Certified Tutor

I was born in China and moved to U.S. when I was 16. Right now I am studying at Eastern Washington University. I am studying Operations Management. I am good at helping others when it comes to learning Mandarin Chinese. I can help with different levels. I took public speaking and Interpersonal communication classes in college, and I have more than 4 years of customer service experience. I know how to communicate with you and will help you with Mandarin. I am also the Society Event Chair in The National Society of Leadership and Success Organization, I work with students a lot. I love to listen to music, watch movies, ski and travel. I believe "Teaching one to fish is better than giving him the fish". I like to put myself in your shoes and learn how I can help in an interesting way. I am very patient and easy to get in touch with. While I am helping you with Mandarin Chinese, I also can tell you the culture and stories of China. I look forward to helping you.

What is your teaching philosophy?

Teaching one to fish is better than giving him fish.

What might you do in a typical first session with a student?

If they have materials they would like to get help with, I would go over the material with them. Otherwise, I would let them have a basic understanding of Chinese and make them interested in Chinese.

How can you help a student become an independent learner?

Teach them how to do it instead of telling them the answers. Give them more practice questions and encourage them to explore.

How would you help a student stay motivated?

Building confidence and always encourage them. Make them stay excited and interested in Chinese.

If a student has difficulty learning a skill or concept, what would you do?

First of all, I will tell them what they have done is right to make them stay confident. Then, I will use different methods to teach them to understand a skill or concept.

What techniques would you use to be sure that a student understands the material?

They need to be my tutor to tell me why it should be done this way.

How do you evaluate a student's needs?

Ask them what they want to accomplish. As we learn, I can find areas where we need to spend more time to work on.
