I have taught elementary students for over 30 years and most of that time has been in 4th, 5th, and 6th grades. I have done reading intervention work with 3rd-6th graders. I am currently a full-time 5th grade teacher, teaching math, science, language arts (writing and grammar), and reading. I do large group and small group instruction in all of those academic areas. I graduated from MIT in 2014 with a BS in Economics and minors in Biology and Public Policy. Currently, I work as a research associate at a development economics lab at MIT, and plan to apply for medical school this upcoming summer. I hope to combine in MD with a PhD in Economics or Health Policy in order to work on issues regarding Healthcare Delivery.Throughout college, I had extensive experience tutoring. I tutored writing/essay editing and SAT prep for a year, as well as high school math for a semester. Furthermore, I participated in a week-long Spring Break tutoring program in New Orleans, where I tutored 3rd and 4th grade students in math. I am a graduate of Saint John's University (Collegeville, MN). I received my Bachelor of Arts in Hispanic Studies, and hold a minor in Creative Writing. My semester-long study abroad trip to Viña del Mar, Chile was fundamental to my development as a Spanish speaker and a person. I attended Universidad Adolfo Ibanez, taking classes on Chilean culture, art, the Pinochet regime, and linguistics. These Spanish-only classes were tough, but not as tough as daily life was with my host family. Chileans speak a rapid, fragmented, and slang-filled version of Spanish, and my three, lovely host mothers were no exception. At the end of my four months in Chile, I could call myself a confident, fluent Spanish speaker, writer, and reader. My favorite subjects to teach are Spanish I and II. These levels are the building blocks of Spanish, and, as such, allow for more mistakes to be made and more fun to be had. I want my students to enjoy learning the language and realize that it is a life skill, not just a school subject. If a student feels that Spanish is strictly academic, his/her motivation will be low and progress slow. In my free time, I like to watch movies, read, walk, run, ride my bike, or otherwise enjoy the great outdoors.

I also student taught at Ravenswood Elementary, working with a diverse learning population in the 4th grade. I love finding ways how to make learning accessible for everyone by using a variety of methods and activities. Finally, the past year I tutored a small group of third graders as they remotely learned in the local public school. I created a learning environment in their homes and provided supplementary materials to not only support their learning, but also our mental health, as we navigated a new way of learning together.
