I have tutored intermittently, primarily teaching test prep; however, I have at different points taught most everything. Here in the Houston area, I've worked with Testmasters, C2 Education and Test Geek. I implement the Socratic Method into my teaching style: I ask plenty of questions that force students to deeply understand the material and to explain how they know why their answer is correct or not. I also believe it is my duty to equip students with tools to become better learners themselves which entails welcoming unique and creative approaches to solving problems, encouraging students to connect the relationships between different topics and subjects, and recommending using external sources and materials to learn and supplement understanding. I'm currently attending Rice University- pursuing a double major Bachelor of Arts in Applied Mathematics and Mathematical Economics. As you can probably tell I'm very passionate about math, and I'm even more passionate about teaching it! I prefer to teach math a little differently than some of you may used to. Many of students think of math as a plug and chug approach- simply being given formulas and plugging numbers in. While I will give you the formulas and critical things to remember if you insist on it, I prefer to teach mathematics as a form of problem solving. How math works is a beautiful thought process- understanding how a formula was conceived is much more rewarding than simply memorizing it. But in the end it's all up to you- the student. If you want a fast run-down of everything you need to know to ace the test- I'll happily help you. However, if you're willing to think outside of the box and learn some very neat stuff, I'll open the doors to mathematical problem solving for you!

I am experienced in tutoring math, science, English, and the environmental sciences, but my favorite subjects to tutor are beginner's Chinese, reading and writing skills, and essay writing and revision. Over the years, I've seen that every student has an individual, personalized learning style, and I strongly believe it is important for tutors to match their teaching styles to the student. The qualities I'll bring into every session with my students are patience, commitment, and persistence, with an eye for a comprehensive mastery of all aspects to the material.

I'm also a student athlete and a starting member of The Rice University Men's Golf Team so I understand time is crucial and will do my best to help you understand and not just memorize concepts so you don't have to spend time every week trying to understand the same thing. A lot of math concepts repeat themselves in high school and college. My core is in math and that is where I will be most efficient in helping a student.
