As a writing consultant at Murray State University and a former Peer Writing Tutor, my goal is to foster an open space where students feel free to ask questions and to help guide them on their academic journey. I am dedicated to helping students feel good about their writing skills and actively engage them in the craft of writing and the ongoing process of learning, while making sessions clear and fun. I focus on not just the formulaic structures of writing but also on understanding the function and mechanics of English - the why these pieces work the way they do. The most rewarding part of being a tutor for me is seeing students grow and excel, and adapting to individual students' needs and preferences while building upon their existing knowledge. When I am not tutoring, I enjoy reading, learning skills to help improve my teaching methods, and discovering new resources I can offer students.
