About Me

I have worked in the education sector for eight years, and my approach to teaching is grounded in viewing myself as an educator rather than simply an instructor. To me, an educator not only teaches course content, but also fosters an environment where students feel supported, encouraged, and motivated to reach their full potential. I believe student success begins with feeling seen, valued, and capable of learning. As an educator, my goal is to create a safe and inclusive learning environment where students are comfortable being themselves while developing the skills needed to become responsible and independent adults. I recognize that community college students come from diverse academic, cultural, and personal backgrounds, and I intentionally differentiate instruction based on students' abilities, preparation, and potential. By maintaining high expectations while providing appropriate support, I aim to help all students progress toward their academic goals. In my biology courses, I provide multiple learning outlets to support different learning styles and levels of readiness. These include structured lecture slides, guided review materials such as Quizlet, hands-on laboratory experiences, and engaging in-class activities that encourage collaboration and active participation. I am also available for individual and small-group tutorials to provide additional support, clarify challenging concepts, and help students build confidence in their learning. I emphasize active and experiential learning to deepen student understanding of biological concepts. My curriculum is largely student-centered, allowing students to take an active role in their learning, and I assess understanding through a variety of formative and summative methods. To challenge and inspire students, including those at a high school or introductory college level, I incorporate exposure to scientific research papers. Reading and discussing current scientific literature helps students develop critical thinking skills and expands their awareness of ongoing developments in the field of biology. My experience teaching in the International Baccalaureate program has cultivated a global perspective and an appreciation for diverse cultures and lived experiences. This informs how I connect biological concepts to real-world contexts that are meaningful and relevant to students' lives. I find that students are more motivated and successful when they can see how course material applies beyond the classroom, and biology naturally lends itself to these connections, from human health to environmental issues. Ultimately, my goal is not only to teach biology, but to support students in becoming confident, perceptive thinkers who can apply scientific reasoning in academic, professional, and everyday contexts. By fostering genuine engagement, differentiated instruction, and inclusive learning practices, I aim to promote student persistence, confidence, and long-term success within both the classroom and the broader community.
