About Me

My name is Dr. Daniel Scherwatzky, and I am an English educator, writing specialist, and scholar with a Ph.D. in English Literature from the University of Miami. My academic and professional journey has been centered around one core mission: helping students become stronger, more confident thinkers, writers, readers, and communicators. Throughout my career, I have worked extensively with students across high school, college, and adult learning environments, giving me broad experience adapting instruction to diverse educational needs, learning styles, and academic goals. My teaching background began internationally through the Japanese Exchange and Teaching (JET) Program, where I taught English at the high school level in Tokyo, Japan. This experience strengthened my ability to communicate complex concepts clearly, foster student confidence, and create engaging lessons for learners from varied cultural and academic backgrounds. Since returning to the United States, I have continued to build on this foundation through years of advanced scholarship, college-level instruction, writing center tutoring, and university teaching. At the University of Miami, I taught composition, literature, and academic writing while also serving as a writing tutor for undergraduate and graduate students. In these roles, I guided students through every stage of the writing process: from brainstorming and thesis development to revision, rhetorical analysis, and polished final drafts. My work has consistently focused on empowering students not only to improve individual assignments but also to develop lifelong critical thinking and communication skills. As a tutor, I specialize in writing instruction, essay development, literary analysis, reading comprehension, research skills, and academic confidence-building.
