- Furthermore, I have participated in and completed several research projects on campus.
About Me
Throughout my academic journey, I have been fortunate to be a part of the Dolores Margaret Spikes Honors College, which has provided me with numerous opportunities to explore both fields of my studies. Along with the honors college, I am a member of the honors quiz bowl team, which helps me develop critical thinking skills and apply my knowledge to advanced topics in science and technology. One of these is currently active in the biology department, focusing on yeast. Specifically, I contribute to a computer science role, working with a postdoc to develop bioinformatics for the project. Currently, we are beginning a program that involves studying various aspects of biostatistics using the programming language **R** to perform statistical analyses for our yeast research. This is particularly valuable to me as it has given me experience with **R**, a coding language specifically used for biological analysis, which I had never learned before. In addition to this research, I participated in a summer research program called SUQSES, funded by the DOE and NNSA. During this program, I conducted various electrochemical experiments in a physics lab to synthesize inorganic compounds. Concurrently, I utilized machine learning and Python to develop predictive models for forecasting experimental outcomes. Alongside these experiences, I am actively conducting research in the computer science department, where I am writing a thesis on **Malware Analysis Sandbox T echniques and Implementation**. I am also a member of SU MAPS, a small organization dedicated to supporting student minorities pursuing health-related careers. Additionally, I am involved in the Association of Computing Machinery (ACM), the National Society of Black Engineers (NSBE), T op Jags, Beta Kappa Chi Scientific Honors Society, the LIGO Docent Program, and several other organizations that strongly support my scientific endeavors. These experiences mean the world to me as they are helping me progress toward my desired career path while simultaneously allowing me to study biological phenomena through extensive mechanisms and processes. At the same time, I use computer science for specific data analyses, merging my interests seamlessly. These opportunities have been instrumental in shaping my understanding of the practical applications of biology in combination with computational methods. Initially, I wanted to go to medical school to help those who cannot help themselves while gaining a thorough understanding of human anatomy to make new discoveries. This dream remains, but I am also learning about the multitude of routes available to me. Ultimately, my pursuit of understanding complex fields of science centers on finding the intersection between biology and computer science, particularly in areas such as biomedical and biological engineering, molecular genetics, and biotechnology. This is what drives me. I aspire to develop technological advancements in medicine and revolutionize technology in healthcare. Furthermore, I aim to refine my computer science skills and become one of the most experienced coders in the field of cybersecurity. As part of this goal, I plan to train for the CISSP exam because what is the use of technological innovation if I cannot protect these systems? In addition to my coursework and research endeavors, I am driven by a desire to contribute to the scientific community through publications, technical presentations, and participation in relevant organizations. These opportunities have enhanced my communication and leadership skills while instilling in me a deep responsibility to share knowledge and contribute to the advancement of science and technology.
