About Me

Dear Mandarin Chinese and/or Japanese learners, Congratulations on setting yourself the remarkable goal of learning Chinese or Japanese! As a native English speaker myself, learning Chinese and Japanese has been among the most rewarding and worthwhile endeavors of my life. I lived in China and Japan for a total of 20 years, teaching myself the languages while teaching English. This experience has given me the skills to be a very effective foreign language tutor. Whether you wish to focus on speaking and listening or reading and writing, or any combination of these four skills, I offer a class specific to meeting your goals. In addition to the four language skills, I also teach the culturally appropriate use of language so that when you are face-to-face with a native speaker, you will avoid faux pas.
