About Me

Becoming a teacher has always been my lifelong dream. I grew up watching my mom come home every day after school, and while she complained about how bad her middle school students were, I could always see the impact she had on them and that was what I wanted to achieve as well. To begin my experience in teaching, I started out with the closest source: my church's children's ministry. Through this, I taught and sat in classes from babies all the way to 6th grade. Being there in the classroom made me feel like I was impacting the lives of the children learning there and I realized that this is what I wanted. This is what I aimed for as a teacher. I went to Howard Community College in 2018 and since then, I have gone through 3 transitions in majors, from Audio, Visual, Media Production (AVMP) to Early Childhood Education, to Elementary Education/Special Education, and finally settling on, and graduating with, an Associate of Arts in Elementary Education. At the same time, I attended the University of Maryland, Baltimore County (UMBC) where I studied as an English major on the Elementary Education certification pathway. With an AA already in my hand, I'm working towards a Bachelor's in English Literature, but my true aim is to be an Elementary School teacher, with English as my specialty. But other than English, I teach Math and Mandarin Chinese. I chose these two subjects because these are the two I have the highest confidence in when it comes to imparting knowledge. If I had to pick my favorite, however, it would be English as well. I chose English because it's my area of study, but also because it's what I have the highest confidence in when teaching Elementary School. When I teach or tutor, I believe in allowing students to learn through connections. It's not enough to give the information to them straight, you've got to make it connect with them somehow. Also, I believe in a welcoming learning environment, where students can learn in peace. I aim to work hard and do the best I can, and I understand that not every student is a good one, but that will not stop me from doing my job to the best of my ability. But when I'm not doing my job, I like to read books and travel and enjoy my alone time.
