I have been tutoring since I was in middle school, and I've done tutoring on and off for 12 years as of now. My favorite subject to teach is and always has been chess, but since I started college I've expanded to SAT and ACT prep as well as college essay and general admissions coaching. For me, the most important thing in teaching is maximizing retention: I will make jokes and tell stories, "wasting" time during the lesson, to make sure that the important parts of what I say are ingrained just as much as the nonsense. Unsurprisingly, I like to have fun when I teach and prefer a more casual teaching style with lots of conversation and back and forth questions and little lecturing.
