About Me

I received a B.A. from Kenyon College in Ohio and enjoyed it so much that I went on to get a M.A. in the Humanities from the University of Chicago, and a Ph.D. in English at UNC. I have had the privilege of working with students of different ages, with different backgrounds, and with different learning goals. For example, I taught poetry to adults, tutored high school students in English, tutored student athletes at the college level, and taught courses in English and composition at UNC. I can tutor in several areas but particularly love thinking through the insights of history, working through how we think about our lives in philosophy, or developing a students' interest in English. In addition to traditional coursework, I have taught how to be successful on the vocabulary, critical reading, and essay-writing writing portion of the PCAT (Pharmacy College of Admission Test) with UNC's Eshelman School of Pharmacy. I enjoyed helping students with a strong science background to think about English in a different wayof essay writing as a kind of puzzle that experience allows you to put together more easily, of communication as a skill that can be practiced and enjoyed rather than a chore or something that a person is inherently good or bad at. In my spare time, I enjoy traveling, doing yoga, running, acting (infrequently) in amateur plays, and of course reading everything and anything that comes my way!
