About Me
I hold a bachelor's in medicine and surgery in Pakistan and after practicing there for 3 years as an internist I came to United States where I successfully completed my USMLE steps with scores above 240s and gained my ECFMG Certification. However, family life had other plans for me which led to changing fields. I went on to graduate from Benedictine University in Public Health with concentration in Epidemiology, giving me the opportunity to continue utilizing my extensive biological and clinical sciences background in disease surveillance, statistics, and prevention. Despite changing fields my love for Anatomy, physiology, pharmacology, pathology, Immunology and , core Biology and Medicine has helped me tremendously to apply my knowledge to my understanding of healthcare policy , epidemiology and infectious diseases , integral to my public health career. Let me tell you about my interest and passion for teaching. I have taught medical school students as an internist since I began my professional career with an emphasis on interactive and problem-based learning. My teaching experience continued with mentoring and continued education of nurses who worked under me as a part of an Escalations unit in the Covid-19 pandemic. In my current job as an epidemiologist, I am responsible for continued education of current team members, where I use power point presentations and question and answer-based modules on topics such as virology, bacteriology of known and emergent pathogens, thus reviewing core concepts of microbiology, immunology, and biology basics. I believe in excellent communication between my self and the intended audience, providing pre-reads and resource material that I will use in a module, so that an educational session is more discussion and concept based instead of putting someone to task. My passion for teaching is the reason behind my plan to enter academics in the next couple of years. I believe learning is mutual and every student will have a different pace. Every teaching session is different, and a little modification is required to not only teach and achieve the target goal of good grades, but also to build a long-lasting relationship with a student. The path begins at tutoring and continues with mentoring!!!
