About Me

As an educator I believe that all students can learn, grow, and achieve academic success with the right guidance, encouragement, and motivation. I believe in life-long learning and therefore I have obtained a BS in Elementary Education K-6; a ME in Special Education K-12; a ME in Elementary Reading; and my Ed.S. in Curriculum and Instruction. I have been teaching for over 17 years and have taught preschool ages through college aged students! My passion is all things literacy and as a Reading Specialist, I strive to close any achievement gaps and help students strive toward and go above grade-level mastery! Foundational reading skills are essential for all subject areas! My background in Reading and Special Education helps me to help every student achieve success :) Watching students grow in literacy and seeing them enjoy reading, is why I became a Reading Specialist! Students need to see what they hear and that is why I use a very visual approach to teaching. I am colorful too and try and use images that my students can connect with (smile faces, dinosaurs, unicorns, etc.). I plan every lesson around the needs and interests of my students. I implement a sticker chart reward system with all my students! Students seem to love choosing stickers :) While my passion is literacy, I am a qualified tutor in all subject areas! When I am not teaching, I love: reading, gardening, cooking, and staying healthy with self-care techniques. I also spend as much time as I can with my Bullmastiff, Remmi..he often loves to visit during tutoring and says hello to the students :)
