At Champlain College, I was trained by industry veterans and toured/interned with several independent and AAA companies, so I know what is desired by professionals in the field. Making games is a difficult but rewarding experience, and one that requires a range of skills across multiple mediums. A typical designer is expected to be able to make basic art assets in programs like PhotoShop and Maya, as well as program game demos in languages like C or Java, all on top of their main obligation which is to deliver a satisfying experience to players.
