Game theory — Alain's intended graduate focus — runs on matrix payoffs, Nash equilibria computed through systems of linear equations, and strategy spaces that are fundamentally vector spaces, so he approaches linear algebra as the language his own field is built on. His UCLA math minor gave him the formal training in eigenvalues, determinants, and matrix decompositions, while the economics side keeps him grounded in what those tools actually solve. That combination is especially useful for students who can follow the mechanics but struggle to see why a particular factorization or transformation matters.

Hello, my name is Yosef and I would be happy to serve as a math tutor. I place strong emphasis on a good balance between knowledge of mathematical content and proficiency in problem-solving, reasoning, and conveying mathematical ideas in writing. There are times when a student needs to be informed of a solution, times when he or she also needs to hear the explanation of why the solution works, and times when he or she should be guided to finding the solution on his or her own. It is important for the tutor to recognize which approach is appropriate. Frequently, when students struggle, it is because they do not understand the notation or terminology in use. In such cases, it is important to reassure the student, reminding him or her that he or she is only struggling with understanding a single word, not the entire mathematical concept. As a rule, people perform better and are better motivated when they have self-confidence, not when the task ahead seems frighteningly daunting. It is also important to recognize that different students learn best through different means. As an example, some students are visual learners and can understand the material best through pictures and gestures. Other students learn best through hearing the procedures vocalized, while still others learn best through writing out the steps of the solution procedure. I know to adapt my teaching style to the individual student. with these considerations in mind, I promise to provide the best assistance that I can, taking your individual needs into consideration.
Pryce studied both economics and math at the University of Pennsylvania, which means he hit linear algebra from two sides — the theoretical proof-based course and the applied matrix methods that underpin econometrics and optimization models. That double exposure makes him especially effective at unpacking concepts like vector spaces and linear transformations for students who can do the row reduction but can't yet articulate why it works. I am a senior with a Neuroscience major at Swarthmore College. My favorite subjects include Biology and Psychology. I am interested in teaching students how to develop a better grasp of their academic material, improve their learning skills, and succeed in whatever course they take. Outside of the classroom, I enjoy playing violin, reading, and traveling. I also have extensive community service experience and have traveled to China, Kenya, and the Dominican Republic to engage in volunteer work.
Eigenvalues, vector spaces, and matrix transformations aren't just abstract math — in Tony's robotics and aerospace work, they're the backbone of everything from control systems to coordinate frame rotations. His MS in Mechatronics means he can unpack concepts like singular value decomposition or change of basis with concrete engineering examples that make the theory click.
Rebecca's background is in international development and sociology rather than pure mathematics, so she approaches linear algebra as someone who had to build real understanding of matrix operations, systems of equations, and transformations from the ground up. That perspective makes her especially effective at breaking down the logic behind each step — she remembers what it's like when row reduction or determinant properties don't yet feel intuitive. Sarah's Penn math degree covered linear algebra at the proof-heavy level where determinants and row reduction give way to abstract vector spaces, linear maps, and dimension arguments — and her statistics minor means she's also seen how matrix factorizations and eigendecompositions power real data analysis. She breaks down the notoriously tricky shift from computation to abstraction by building students' geometric intuition for what transformations, span, and independence actually mean. I graduated from Dartmouth College with a double major, receiving a Bachelor of Arts in both Biochemistry/Molecular Biology and Music. I continued my education at Columbia University and received Master of Arts in Biology. Starting in middle school and continuing through my graduate career, I have tutored students in a wide variety of subjects, but I was most effective at tutoring math and science because of my lifelong love and aptitude for these subjects. Since I am also working towards a career in molecular biology, I use math and science every day, and I can explain real-world applications and uses for these subjects that may not seem obvious. By demonstrating the use of math and science in everyday life, I am able to help interact with the student and increase their interest in a subject in which they may experience difficulty. I also believe that as a tutor, it is my responsibility to engage with the student to help them achieve and even surpass their goals. In my spare time, I am heavily involved with music in New York City, being part of multiple choirs and continuing to play piano. I also enjoy exercising and exploring the city whenever I have the chance.
A master's in statistics built on a math undergraduate degree means Nicholas has lived inside matrix algebra — covariance matrices, projections, and least-squares estimation all run on linear algebra's core machinery. He teaches determinants, eigendecompositions, and rank not as isolated procedures but as the mechanics driving real statistical models. Rated 5.0 by students.
A year as a course assistant in Harvard's math department — teaching introductory calculus — gave Richard a front-row seat to where students first stumble with abstraction, a skill that translates directly to linear algebra's shift from matrix arithmetic to reasoning about vector spaces and linear maps. His government major might seem unrelated, but formal logical argumentation is central to both fields, and he leans on that structured thinking when breaking down proofs involving span, basis, and dimension.
Eigenvalues, vector spaces, and matrix decompositions aren't just theoretical exercises — they're tools Adel used routinely during his PhD for finite element analysis and dynamic systems modeling. He unpacks linear algebra by showing students the geometric meaning behind each operation, so that abstract proofs and computational techniques reinforce each other instead of feeling like separate courses.
I love to teach. I love young minds and fresh brains. Those are just like clean sheets of papers I can draw anything I like. I really like to help young people to achieve their full capacities with my long experience of teaching. I am very patient and good at explaining complex concepts in simple terms. I am looking forward to meeting students who need my help.
Training at ETH Zurich's applied math program means Shahnawaz worked through linear algebra at a level where concepts like spectral decompositions, Jordan normal forms, and singular value factorizations were prerequisites for more advanced coursework — not endpoints. He digs into the geometric intuition behind abstract definitions, showing students what a null space or eigenvector actually looks like before formalizing the algebra around it. Rated 4.9 by students.
