I'm passionate and interested about the subjects I teach and tutor, and I believe strongly in showing my students how interesting those subjects can be and how enjoyable it is to learn. I've been tutoring my friends, peers, and neighbors since I was in high school all the way until I graduated from ASU this year with a bachelor in Conservation Biology. I'm most comfortable teaching biology, chemistry, physics, math, and history, and I believe that the purpose of a tutor is not to do the student's homework, but to teach them to do it themselves.

I am a senior at Arizona State University studying Political Science, with a focus on international relations. I am also a participant in the federally-sponsored Chinese Language Flagship program that supports students in attaining full business proficiency in Mandarin. I have previously studied abroad in Shanghai, China, during which I worked as a volunteer English teacher for elementary school children. While I currently tutor a broad range of subjects, I am most passionate about teaching Mandarin, political science, government, and world history. As a second-language learner myself, I understand the struggles one may encounter when trying to memorize vocabulary or understand new grammar structures. It brings me much joy to share my strategies for overcoming these struggles with students & watch as their grasp on the language improves! In regards to the other subjects, understanding politics & history is essential to helping students make better sense of the world they live in. I will help students better comprehend the historical context for certain modern developments, different political frameworks, and important terminology used in the field.
Medical school admissions forced Alex to master the MCAT's verbal reasoning section, which tests the same core skill as SAT Reading — tracking an author's argument through dense, unfamiliar prose and distinguishing what's stated from what's inferred. With a 1590 SAT composite and a chemical engineering background, he's especially sharp on the science passages, where students panic over technical vocabulary instead of following the straightforward logical structure underneath. Rated 4.8 by students.
I'm a junior in chemical engineering at ASU Barrett and I specialize in math and physics tutoring. If you need help with any of your math subjects or have trouble with physics and chemistry I'm the one to call. I love working with students and each and everybody's success is my top priority.
I am a graduate student at Arizona State University studying Human and Social Dimensions of Science and Technology, and am passionate about the value of education at all levels. Previously I worked at the US Department of Energy on energy technology in Washington, DC. I have enjoyed setting up roots in Phoenix over the past few years, and am excited about sharing my knowledge and passion for learning with others in the area.I have a knack for explaining complicated ideas to people in simple terms, enjoy deepening people's understandings of issues, and value education highly. All of these characteristics make me an ideal tutor for Varsity Tutors, and I look forward to the opportunity to share my academic experiences and skills with tutees. In addition, I can give an expert's perspective on a wide range of topics including political science, public policy, various topics in science and technology, as well as an academic success-oriented mindset.
The SAT Reading section is less about being a strong reader and more about finding evidence efficiently — knowing how to match answer choices to specific lines in a passage under time pressure. Amanda, who scored 1550 on the SAT, teaches a systematic approach to paired evidence questions and vocabulary-in-context items that removes the guesswork.
I am a recent graduate of the University of Arizona, with a BS in Biology and minors in Mathematics and Biochemistry. I am currently working on computer coding and enjoy tutoring students, specializing in test preparation for the ACT, SAT, and GRE.
Scoring a 1580 SAT composite means Jake knows how the Reading section tries to trip you up — wrong answers that sound reasonable but subtly distort what the passage actually says. His marketing training sharpens that instinct further, since analyzing how language persuades is literally what the field runs on, making him quick at spotting the rhetorical moves behind author-purpose and inference questions. Rated 4.9 by students.
I am a second year student at Emory University working towards a B.S. in Physics and Mathematics. I tutor in all levels of physics and math, and specialize at the high school AP and SAT level. I have hundreds of hours of experience tutoring in these subjects, and I love to help my students see the beauty in physics and mathematics.
Scoring 1500 on the SAT gave Elizabeth firsthand insight into how the Reading section tests inference, evidence pairing, and vocabulary in context — not just comprehension. Her graduate work in political science involved dissecting dense academic texts daily, which is exactly the skill set the passage-based questions demand.
Scoring a 1570 on the SAT means Annelisa knows exactly how the Reading section tries to trip students up — those answer choices that feel right but subtly distort the passage's argument. She teaches a line-reference strategy that anchors every answer in specific textual evidence, cutting through the ambiguity that costs most students points.
